If any single Cameron brand reflects the growth and development of the North American oil and gas industry, it is the highly respected DEMCO® brand.
Established in 1945 by two Oklahoma City entrepreneurs, Drilling Equipment Manufacturing Co. earned an early reputation for its expertise in drilling rig tools such as drag bits, wash pipes and hose adapters. Beginning with less than a dozen people, the small office and garage complex has expanded rapidly throughout the decades.
With the 1950s launch of the company’s new gate and butterfly valves came rapid growth. Harkening back to the company’s beginnings, Drilling Equipment Manufacturing Co.’s new gate valve offering was developed for high-pressure drilling mud flow control, earning the nickname “the mud valve.” With this, the forerunner to the DEMCO Series DM gate valve – which is utilized across the world today for high-pressure mud systems – was born. In 1965, the company name changed from Drilling Equipment Manufacturing Co. to the now recognizable DEMCO name.
The privately owned DEMCO became a part of the Gardner-Denver Co. in 1975. Four years later, DEMCO was incorporated into the Cooper Industries family of products.
Cameron’s DEMCO line of butterfly valves brings a resilient seated design, ideal for fluid control in harsh environments, everywhere from oilfield applications – including the exploration, production, transportation and industrial markets – to snowmaking applications. Similarly, the DEMCO gate valve is designed for use in abrasive and corrosive service conditions associated with a number of oilfield applications.
Today, DEMCO is a Cameron brand that represents a team of people and a line of products that have serviced the global oil and gas industry for decades.
