Conveniently located off Interstate 77 between Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC, The Macomb Group’s Richburg, SC branch serves a wide variety of commercial and industrial customers in the Southeast region, with particular emphasis on the area’s sizable manufacturing community.
The Macomb Group acquired the operations in Richburg in December 2019 as part of their strategy to expand into South Carolina. The business, formerly known as Richburg Supply Company, had an excellent reputation for customer service and provided a unique opportunity to access an attractive customer base in South Carolina. “These were big plusses and the reason we were approached by The Macomb Group,” according to Jim Flynn, Richburg Branch Manager, who credits his 10-person team with the success of the branch over the years.
The 12,500 square foot facility, while not the largest among Macomb Group locations, stocks a variety of pipe, valves and fittings. Flynn notes that if a requested product happens to be unavailable, it can easily be transferred to Richburg from The Macomb Group’s regional distribution center in Charlotte for same- or next-day delivery. “We’re definitely seeing the benefits of access to more inventory, additional product lines, and technical expertise in the organization,” added Flynn.
But what distinguishes the Richburg Branch from other Macomb Group locations is its wide-ranging inventory of specialty steel products, including carbon steel plate, angle, square and rectangular tubing, channel, and beam. “It’s what sets us apart, and we’re working to acquaint our ‘new’ colleagues with our capabilities and vendor relationships,” says Flynn, adding “we were just awarded a large purchase order for steel plate from a customer at the Charlotte branch – cross-selling at its finest.”
According to Flynn, “Our selling point is the service. If someone needs a product the same or next day, we make it happen. In keeping with The Macomb Group tradition, our folks here have a ‘whatever its takes’ mentality. That’s why our customers have been so loyal to us.”
